This morning's service at Holy Trinity Cathedral in Auckland began with a special remembrance for those who died in the Paris terrorist attacks.

The ringing of a bell signified the start of a minute's silence for the victims. This was followed by a prayer for peace.

Dean Jo Kelly-Moore prayed for the those who died, the injured and those in mourning.

She asked for governments and those in authority to find a way to make the world a peaceful place for everyone.

"The first thing I thought was not again."

In Wellington, people lay flowers and candles outside the French embassy with messages for the people of France.

"Thoughts with my family and friends in Paris," one of the messages read.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade says no New Zealanders have been killed or injured in the attacks.
